Previously, civil society, municipalities and electricity consumers have gathered to protest in the city of Benin, Edo, against the alleged plan to renew the operating license of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).
Ososa Edigin, public relations officer of the Edo State Civil Society Organization (EDOSCO), said the peaceful demonstration, which will take three days, is intended to draw the BPE’s attention to the “incompetence of the distribution company”.
Osaze said that the performance agreement that the company had entered into with the federal government had expired on October 31, 2018, rather than the extension proposed by BPP in December 2019.
He further stated that the “BEDC operating License” should neither be renewed nor renewed. BPP and NERC can not be compromised “.
The protesters said: “Today, we are working with other stakeholders and critical stakeholders and reaffirm our position that the operators of the BEDC will not earn an extension or renewal of the operating license for one day after 31 October 2018.” ,
“We vehemently protest and sue the BPP and NERC for pursuing the happiness of the people they vowed to serve.”
“The BPP and NERC should not show the stance that suggests they have been compromised by the DISCOs, as Nigerians in Edo, Delta, Ondo and Ekiti are seriously awaiting the non-renewal and renewal of the license from Vigeo Holdings Limited, the operators the Benin Distribution Company (BEDC) “.
