Ronaldo and Messi.

Who is better: Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo?

It’s a question that football fans have been asking for many, many years.

With both players each winning five Ballon d’Ors each, scoring a ridiculous amount of goals and having incredible individual trophy cabinets, it’s rather difficult to provide a definitive answer.

The last player to have won the Ballon d’Or other than Messi or Ronaldo was Kaka, back in 2007. But with the two superstars now in their 30’s, thoughts have turned to who will take over their mantle and claim the biggest individual award in football when these two have finally stopped running riot.

Neymar is certainly a front-runner, while his Paris Saint-Germain teammate Kylian Mbappe has a good chance of winning the Ballon d’Or during his career considering he’s still only 19-years-old.

But another youngster that has his eyes on the ultimate prize is the son of Patrick Kluivert – Justin.

The 18-year-old wonderkid has a growing reputation in the game and has been linked with a big move away from Ajax.

KLUIVERT WANTS TO WIN THE BALLON D’OR

And the youngster has set his sights high and wants to one day win the Ballon d’Or.

“That’s definitely my goal, I can tell you that,” he told Goal.

“That’s what I want and nothing less. I will have to work hard to get there, but I am only 18 and still have plenty of room for improvement. I will definitely work hard for it and that is my goal. There’s more to come from me.”

But what are his thoughts on the current two going head-to-head for their sixth award?

KLUIVERT: TEAM MESSI OR TEAM RONALDO

Well, Kluivert gave a very honest answer to the Messi/Ronaldo debate.

Although he admitted the Real Madrid star was one of his role models, he couldn’t deny that Messi is the best player in the world.

“I definitely have a few [role models],” he said.

“My father is one of them, but Cristiano Ronaldo is another, also because of what he’s doing off the pitch.

“He doesn’t just think about himself, but also about others. He does a lot for charities and is really dedicated to his life as a footballer. That’s something I can learn from and I want to be doing myself as well.

“I’m Team Messi. He is the best player in the world, but Ronaldo is a role model for me. I’m sure Messi [works hard] as well, but I like the way Ronaldo manages to deliver the message across social media. He is an example to follow because of the way he lives for the game. That’s just great.”

So, Ronaldo is the perfect role model for the way he conducts himself but Messi is the better player. That’s the opinion of Kluivert anyway.

Having just won his first cap for the Netherlands, Kluivert is well on his way to following in the footsteps of his father.

Maybe in 10 years time, Kluivert and Mbappe will be compared in the same way Messi and Ronaldo are…
