The Super Eagles began their preparations for the World Cup with a 1-0 win over Poland in Wroclaw in an international friendly on Friday. After a bright start, the Eagles took the back seat in the latter stages of the first half as Poland dominated.

The second half was different as both teams went for it, even though no real opportunities were created until Victor Moses went down under a challenge inside the Poland 18-yard box. The referee wasted no time in pointing to the spot, and the Chelsea man converted, but how did the Nigerian side fare in the cold of Wroclaw? Find here.

Stephen Uzoho – 6

After what appeared to be a shaky start, the goalkeeper made a number of decent saves to keep a clean sheet and ensure Nigeria won. Still has a bit of a raw edge, but at 19, still a lot of time to improve.

Shehu Abdullahi – 5

A decent enough shift before being replaced after he got injured, but not his best game in the Super Eagles colours.

Brian Idowu – 5

Very robust in the tackle but offered little going forward and failed to provide adequate support for Alex Iwobi. Only his second game for Nigeria but needs to improve.

Leon Balogun – 6

Was tidy in possession and stayed tight to Robert Lewandowski when he had to. A decent evening before being replaced.

William Ekong – 8

He had a captain’s game – good in the tackle and helped start attacks with a number of forward passes. Probably motivated by the captain’s armband

Wilfred Ndidi – 7

Another decent outing by the midfielder. Provided steel and cover for the defence, even though his usage of the ball fell short yet again.

Joel Obi – 6

Started brightly and played some good forward passes to start attacks. Was also robust in the tackle but appeared to tire out in the second half as the game wore on.

Alex Iwobi – 6

Often found it difficult to decide on time what to do with the ball. He needs to improve on his decision making otherwise, it was a decent outing.

Victor Moses – 8

Had a slow start, but grew into the game in the second half. He was fouled for the penalty and took responsibility to score. Not his best game, but not his worst either.

Kelechi Iheanacho – 6

Played in the number 10 role but failed to provide the link between those behind him and the center forward.

Odion Ighalo – 6

Appeared isolated at times but looked dangerous whenever he had the ball. Provided serious physical test for the Polish defenders.
