Are you familiar with myostatin? Myostatin is the chemical in our bodies that break down unused muscle in the body. Muscle consumes a lot of energy from the body. Our species developed myostatin for when food was scarce or we needed to travel long distances over long periods of time. Having extra muscle slows us down and starves us faster unnecessarily, so our body drops it.
BUT some people do not produce myostatin and have a deficiency.
Myostatin-related muscle hypertrophy (or myotonic hypertrophy) is a rare genetic condition characterized by reduced body fat and increased skeletal muscle size. Affected individuals have up to twice the usual amount of muscle mass in their bodies. They also tend to have increased muscle strength.”
A much more dense skeletal structure, the body limits the amount of fat it makes and puts most excess energy into creating extra muscle. I can never help but think “Born Super Heroes” whenever I hear about these people.
Pictures of the strongest kid in the world, suffers from a myostatin deficiency, in the guiness book of world records as the strongest person in the world for his age, and pics verified by snopes. He is 5 years old in this picture.
