For many young people, there can come a time in their lives where they sit their parents down and reveal that they are making a big change in order to pursue their dreams in life. 22-year-old Gabby Scampone of New York sat her parents and friends down for a similar conversation. The general consensus after those conversations? She was crazy.
“When I moved here and told my parents that I was wrestling alligators they weren’t too excited,” Gabby said to Barcroft Media.
“A lot of people just assume I’m crazy and tell me I’m insane. Obviously, if you see someone kissing an alligator, but they don’t understand the alligators I work with are typically really sweet.”
And though her parents were less-than-pleased with her career choice, they supported her. Thus, she moved from New York to Florida to work with the big reptiles.
Falling in love with predators — specifically, alligators — led Gabby to make such a drastic, “crazy” change.
Gabby works in alligator relocation as well as volunteering as a gator wrestler at the Everglades Holiday Park.
“I basically don’t have a social life anymore,” she said. In fact, Gabby once walked out of a date to go relocate an alligator. “It was a blessing in disguise because the guy didn’t want to come with me, so there will not be a second date!
