A British sniper took out a Daesh commander with a single ‘one in a million’ headshot from a mile away at night.

Senior defence sources reportedly have said the SAS sniper shot the terrorist dead from 1,500m away through the back of the head as he got out of a vehicle.

A source in the armed forces told the Daily Star that it took the rifleman just 15 seconds to line up and take his shot.

They said:

The shot was one in a million. Getting a one-round, one-kill head shot at night using thermal imagery in a 15-second target window is about as close to impossible as you can get but he pulled it off.

He is definitely the best sniper around at the moment.

It’s been reported that the soldier in question is a sergeant with the SAS G-Squadron who’s carried out operations in Afghanistan and Iraq where he’s had more than 100 confirmed kills.

The soldier’s been deployed in Syria and Iraq in the past three months and is believed to be working counter-terrorist operations.

According to the Daily Star’s source, the soldier’s unit was alerted to an Daesh commander who was arriving at a safe house in a village close to the Syrian border.

The source added:

The village was in the hands of ISIS gunmen so there was absolutely no chance of organising a capture mission. To do so would have been suicide.

It is always preferable to capture rather than kill because of the potential to gather more intelligence. Instead a kill mission was planned.

The SAS team had hoped that the Isis commander would arrive during the day because a night shot was regarded as too dangerous.

But as evening approached the team realised that they were going to have to either abort or go for a night shot. The sniper said he wanted to take the shot and was given a ‘go’ order.

The feat’s similar to a shot taken last year by another SAS sniper. According to the Daily Mail, a sharpshooter with the SAS shot dead an ISIS jihadi from 1.5miles away.
