One person was killed and three others were injured in the accident that led to uproar.

Some angry youths in the College Road area of Ondo town in Ondo State, on Monday, set a vehicle ablaze after it swerved off the road and hit four people at the Catholic Junction end of the road.

While one person was confirmed dead on the spot, three others were rushed to a hospital.

A protest was said to have occurred immediately after the accident, which led to the barricade of the expressway by the youths. They also set bonfires on some parts of the road.

The protest was said to have caused a traffic jam on the expressway for several hours, making motorists take alternative routes to their destinations.

One of the protesters, Wahab, who claimed to be a student of the Adeyemi College of Education, ACE, said the protest would continue until the government found a solution to recurrent crashes on the road.

He said, “We are tired of accidents that usually occur here; we are students of the ACE who are living in this area. We will no more accept situations where vehicles will be killing our colleagues. We won’t leave here (expressway) until government erects bumps on this road.

“We have been to the local government and the police station in this area to protest.”

The protesters during their exercise, maintained that the government erect speed breakers on the expressway to reduce the recklessness of motorists.

Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command arrived to disperse the protesters.
