Macaulay Culkin has had a pretty interesting life. He was once the most famous child actor in the world, but he abandoned the spotlight in favor of a quieter life.

Unlike so many other child stars, Culkin has pretty much avoided major scandals. But what has he been up to all these years? Well, that might surprise you…

Culkin’s dad was his manager when his career first started, but he didn’t have a reputation for being a great dude.

Sometime after a long custody battle broke out between his parents, Culkin sought his own representation and was legally emancipated.

“I just remember the exact point […] I had already done one or two things that year, and I just said to [my dad], ‘Listen, I’m really getting tired and I’m not at school as much as I’d like to be. I really need some time off.'”

You probably knew that these two dated, but did you realize the relationship lasted eight years? The couple called it quits back in 2011, and surprisingly, Kunis told Howard Stern that part of the problem was Culkin’s intense fame.

He famously defended the singer in court and called the charges against him “absolutely ridiculous.”
