Shreyash Barmate believes children should solve their difficulties with a smile. Although he was born with Progeria, a rare genetic condition that causes him to age rapidly, he refuses to let it hold him back or define his life. Shreyash plays instruments, dances, swims, sings, and even drives a car.

The 11-year-old lives with his mother, father, older brother, and twin brother in Madhya Pradesh, India. Fortunately, neither of his brothers have Progeria, which only affects about one in twenty million people. As a result of the condition, Shreyash suffers from baldness, heavy wrinkles and weakened limbs. He looks like an old man, but his heart and energy level are definitely that of a young boy.

Shreyash impresses everyone he meets with his optimism and joy for life. His father says his son spends his time smiling, playing and eating. While his doctor comments that Shreyash is one of the most positive children he’s ever met, exhibiting absolutely no negativity.

As for Shreyash, he wishes there was a cure for his condition, but is determined to keep smiling regardless of what the future holds. This amazing boy hopes to be a singer when he grows up and with his confidence I am pretty sure he will accomplish his goals.
