Selling akara is a means of livelihood for many Nigerians especially women
Amina Abdullahi, a forty-five year-old akara seller, has been recognised by an NGO, known as the Katsina Forum, and for the service she has been rendering to the people of Katsina state, she was given monetary gifts.
According to NAN, in recognition of her activities, the forum gave her a cash gift of N100,000 at a ceremony which took place in Katsina on Saturday.
She was not the only one as 30 other persons were also rewarded by the forum with cash and cars for delivering.
Lawal Ahmed a popular Kannywood Hausa movie actor, also got a car. Malam Muttaqah Darman, the chairman of the Katsina forum, said they selected the beneficiaries from different sectors.
Malam Darman who is also a former executive secretary of Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), said: “The idea is to encourage them to continue providing good services to Katsina residents.
“The awardees are people who are providing services to other people with the aim of earning a living.
“We selected traders, artisans, vulcanisers, bricklayers, physicians, nurses, journalists and companies that provide quality services to the people of Katsina.
“Many of the awardees are young men and we want to use the awards to encourage unemployed youths to establish their own businesses.”
He also called on the youths to engage in small scale businesses, explaining that they were the back bone of every society and advised them to set up small businesses with small capital.
